It is the most important off-board purification device installed in the exhaust system of automobiles. It can convert harmful gases such as CO, HC and NOx discharged from automobile exhaust into harmless CO2, water and N2. With the increasingly demanding environmental protection requirements, more and more automobiles are equipped with devices such as catalytic converters for exhaust gas. It is installed in the engine exhaust pipe and converted to carbon dioxide and nitrogen by a redox reaction.
●Failure caused by ternary blockage
Fault (1): Exhaust gas emission exceeded
Fault (2): increased fuel consumption
When the three-way converter starts to block, it will affect the normal operation of the oxygen sensor, so that the fuel injection, the intake air and the ignition cannot be accurately controlled, thereby increasing the fuel consumption.
Fault (3): Power is reduced.
This phenomenon is most obvious for turbocharged cars.When high-pressure exhaust is required, the exhaust gas is not smooth due to the blockage, thereby affecting the intake air amount, which in turn causes the engine power to drop, and then causes the power to drop and the fuel to be weak.
Fault (4): engine jitter is often turned off
This situation is the rarest, only in the case of three-way catalysis completely blocked. Since the exhaust gas cannot be exhausted in time, the back pressure is inevitably reversed, so that the engine is shaken and gasped until the flame is extinguished.
"Three-way catalytic converter" blockage can be divided into three stages
The first stage is a slight blockage stage
Only the exhaust gas purification function is reduced, and the exhaust gas emission exceeds the standard.
The second stage is the moderate blockage stage
Chemical complexes have accumulated to a certain extent on the surface of the catalyst.
At this stage, the exhaust back pressure is raised. Increased fuel consumption and reduced power.
The third stage is the severe blockage stage
This stage is manifested by a severe decline in power, often stalled.
In severe cases, the exhaust pipe burns red. Even causing the vehicle to ignite spontaneously.
